Wellness Wednesday: almost doesn't count...
Everybody knows, almost doesn't count
How can we commit to ourselves, our health, to each other, so that what counts is our commitment? I get so excited in times in front of audiences, small and big, that my words get caught on my tongue. When I was younger, this was not such an issue, and I could usually wing whatever it was I had to say.
But now I know that preparation, modeling and practice go along way. I also know that I need to actually commit to the preparation...I can't almost it.
By setting aside time to prepare, I am able to be more precise, concise and expressive. I can't say, oh I gotta practice for tomorrow's welcome speech, and keep saying that without actually doing it.
If there's an appointment looming on the horizon, prepare yourself. Write down questions for your health provider, explore before. If you plan on walking or running the next day, know what you're going to wear, have a sense of where you're going to walk.
Advice On Completing Tasks
From the VeryWell Mind Podcast:
Why Do We Procrastinate?
We often come up with several excuses or rationalizations to justify our behavior. The following are just a few of the common reasons why people tend to procrastinate:
- Not knowing what needs to be done
- Not knowing how to do something
- Not wanting to do something
- Not caring if it gets done or not
- Not caring when something gets done
- Not feeling in the mood to do it
- Being in the habit of waiting until the last minute
- Believing that you work better under pressure
- Thinking that you can finish it at the last minute
- Lacking the initiative to get started
- Forgetting
- Blaming sickness or poor health
- Waiting for the right moment
- Needing time to think about the task
- Delaying one task in favor of working on another
